This is a cedar hat I wove from red and yellow cedar from Alaska. It’s the third cedar hat I’ve woven in the Haida rain hat snail trail pattern. I adorned it with an abalone button on the top representing the harmony between the land (cedar) and water (abalone shell). It also has an ermine pelt on it to show wealth and a braided sinew strap to keep it from blowing away during windy days. The sinew tie is secured with a Devils Club bead traditionally used for energetic protection.
